We have an immediate opening for a Senior Mechanical Engineer in our San Leandro, CA office.
JOB SUMMARY
L3 ATI has an opportunity for a senior-level Mechanical Engineer to join our organization and become a key contributor to multi-disciplinary teams responsible for the proposal, design, manufacture, test, and commissioning of large high-voltage, high-current pulsed power systems. This position requires demonstrated experience in mechanical design and analysis, documenting and presenting design details, establishing test and verification procedures, and working with vendors to manufacture large fabricated components. The ideal candidate should enjoy working in an R&D environment to develop creative solutions to unique and challenging problems.
The scope of this role includes mentoring and leading a small team of mechanical engineers and designers. Additionally, there is an opportunity to manage the department and set future direction including updating company standards/procedures and leading the adoption of newer 3D CAD/CAM and PLM software.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Lead and manage the overall mechanical design of large pulsed power systems and components
Develop requirements and basis of estimate (BOE) for proposal costing
Work with integrated project teams (IPTs) to develop new or modify existing pulsed power systems and components
Conduct and document mechanical analysis including GD&T, structural, thermal, pressure/vacuum, seismic, and vibration calculations
Review drawings and designs by others
Work with vendors to manufacture large fabricated components from metallic and dielectric materials
Develop test procedures, witness and document mechanical verification and validation tests at L3 and vendor sites
Contribute to ISO 9001 quality functions for design and development including material review boards (MRBs) and audit support
Author technical documents
Prepare material and present at design reviews and customer briefings
Participate in field installation and commissioning
Assist with planning, coordination, and management of budgets and manpower for the department
QUALIFICATIONS
MS in Mechanical Engineering plus 7 years experience or BS plus 9 years experience
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California
Experience in system level hardware design and development in all project phases
7 years experience with 3D CAD/CAM software including Pro/E and SolidWorks
Extensive knowledge of PLM software such as Teamcenter and Windchill
Significant experience with FEA software such as Pro/Mechanica
Knowledge and proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Expert mechanical analysis background including structural, thermal, pressure/vacuum, seismic, and vibration calculations
Experience designing and certifying pressure vessels and lifting fixtures
Experience as a lead or chief engineer is a plus
Experience in pulsed power or nuclear industries is a plus
Knowledge of MIL-SPEC and MIL-STD requirements a plus
Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills
Existing DOD Secret security clearance or the equivalent or the ability to qualify
U.S. Person status
